Summary:

The ARMATURE 2 project is an extension and broadening of the IMU's ARMATURE project, for which a thesis was financed from 2015 to 2017 (viva scheduled for summer 2018). This project has given rise to scientific communications and publications as well as the setting up of a web platform, webarmature.fr, making it possible to visualise both the data used (from 1950 to 2015, aerial and satellite photographs and IGN maps) and the results of the analyses carried out (e.g. interactive sealing maps and 1:1m soil occupation maps for 1984-2015). The platform has become a tool for a number of partners (Lyon Métropole and the City of Lyon), enabling them to compare successive states of landscapes and parcels.
The current ARMATURE 2 project aims to develop and further promote the work already started and bring on board new practitioner partners. First, the mapping of changes in vegetation in the Greater Lyon area for the period 1950-1980 needs to be completed, which requires the development of an appropriate method for aerial photographs in black and white, to be developed in partnership with EVS and LIRIS. Two new research themes using the soil occupation data produced will be developed:

1) the detection and automatic dating of peri-urban hedges with the Arthropologia association, which currently works with Lyon Métropole, to improve the network of agricultural hedges.

2) the functional connectivity of green spaces on a one-metre scale (EVS), concerning both heritage spaces (partner: Lyon Métropole) and invasive species (partner: City of Lyon).
At the same time, the webarmature.fr website will have to integrate all this information with that already developed as part of the thesis nearing completion. It will also have to evolve into a platform able to gather data from other projects concerning the same geographical area (IMU projects such as HIREAU and EPOC).
