Summary:
Feeding cities better both in terms of quantity and quality, especially major conurbations, constitutes a challenge for future urban worlds, conceived in particular in terms of sustainability and food justice.
At the scale of urban food systems, we need diagnostics to understand in a systematic manner the relationship between consumption basins, supply and food behaviour.
The RESALI project seeks to test methods and tools to conduct a detailed analysis of the organisation of urban food systems and identify the connections/disconnections between food supply and demand or, in other words, between food resources and certain consumption basins, even those farthest removed and least informed.
Based on a consortium of geographers and computer scientists and involving practitioners in the Lyon food systems, the aim is to develop an innovative information system at the scale of the Lyon-St-Etienne Métropole, integrating structural data (census, retailers, etc.) and mass individual data such as consumption and VGI data (Volunteered Geographic Information), such as the content obtained from Web 2.0 generated by the general public.
The project is based on the coupling of three original methodological approaches: the development of an information system and the development of spatial data mining methods associated with conceptual and systemic reflection.
Anchored in an interdisciplinary approach, the scientific implications of the RESALI project will be significant for each discipline involved both in terms of the methods (data mining, enrichment of mining models by spatial analysis models and spatial analysis of geodigital data) and issues concerning food justice.
The results of the project on the local architecture of food resources and consumer behaviour, particular viewed through the prism of social media, will be submitted and discussed at the level of the Lyon-St-Etienne metropolis or at the level of certain neighbourhoods/subspaces. We also intend to show that food resources are places of ecological, social and territorial innovation for urban worlds and must be taken into consideration during their construction.
