Margaret Garb chercheuse américaine, professeure à l’université Washington de Saint-Louis, spécialiste d’histoire urbaine contemporaine aux Etats-Unis sera présente au Collegium de Lyon du début février à la fin juin 2017.

Margaret Garb is professor of American history at Washington University. I am the author of two books published by the University of Chicago Press: City of American Dreams: A History of Home Ownership and Housing Reform in Chicago, 1871-1919 (2008) and Freedom’s Ballot: African American Political Struggles in Chicago from Abolition to the Great Migration (2014). I have published articles in scholarly journals and in The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, New York Magazine, and In These Times among others. I am, in addition, the founder and co-director of the university’s Prison Education Project, which offers for-credit college courses in a medium security prison.
I am working on a book on the history of poverty in America from the Civil War to the Reagan era, exploring the relationship between poverty and work, and the criminalization of poverty. In addition, I am completing a series of essays for a volume on the social history of urban planning in twentieth-century U.S. My work, generally, focuses on urban history, politics, law, race, class, and landscape studies. My PhD is from Columbia University.
